January 5th the Three Wise Men


On this date at the beginning of the year La Jara celebrates the Three Wise Men’s Parade which goes through the streets of the town and arrives at the Basilica of the Assumption, where gifts are given to the children of Villanueva de la Jara.

San Antón in the town’s hermitage


Celebrating the mass to Saint Anton and the procession of the saint, with music by the Municipal Band of Music and blessing of animals. There is also an auction of products. Also, during the festivities of San Antón, the fifth year olds light a bonfire.

Maundy Thursday


One of the festivities, within the celebrations of La Jara, is Maundy Thursday. The tradition is celebrated in February/March and leads Jareños and Jareñas to spend the day in the countryside in different parts of the municipality.

Carnivals of Villanueva de la Jara


As could not be otherwise, the Carnival of Villanueva de la Jara fills the streets of the town with color and festivities, which are developed through parades, floats and troupes. August and the Fiestas Patronales de la Virgen de las Nieves (Patron Saint’s Day of the Virgin of the Snows)
The most eagerly awaited festival in La Jara is the one held in honor of its patron saint, the Virgen de las Nieves. Between August 4 and 8 the town succumbs to the multitude of celebrations, the fair, the dance and different festivities that are distributed during the days of the patron saint, who has been the patron saint since 1508.

After midnight, after a Salve Cantada in the Iglesia del Carmen (the Church of the Patron Saint), fireworks illuminate Villanueva de la Jara.
